I wonder if it’s true that many people attend church just to feel better. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes that’s what we need … but just sometimes. We need more than that though. More often than not, we need to hear more than a sermon that makes us say “Amen, Praise the Lord” and get us on an emotional high. We need to learn something that we can apply to our daily life and that helps us grow in the Lord.
The Holy Bible is full of lessons and instructions; i.e., principles which when applied to our life open the door to God’s blessings. One of the first lessons taught to man in the Bible was about obedience. We all know the story. God created Adam and Eve; gave them life, food, a home, each other, and dominion over all His creation. And, God “walked” among them in the Garden of Eden. They had it made! There was only one command … don’t eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God even told them the consequences. If you do, you gonna die! You think they would have obeyed. But rather than obey God, they decided they wanted more and ate from the forbidden Tree. The consequences were disastrous as we all well know. Sin and death entered the world. From this biblical account we know obedience to God matters.
Wisdom and Understanding are valuable. They embody the lessons and principles we are to live by IF we desire a closer walk with the Lord and enjoy the blessings He has in store for us. They allow us to see things from God’s perspective. They are like low hanging fruit.
So take … eat … see that The Lord is Good.
